AN OLD HOUSE SOMEWHERE IN MISSISSIPPI

This house began as a one room "log cabin" around 1820. It has been moved, enlarged and then reduced in size. The owner would like to make it a retirement home.

Floor joists of original portion. Note these are whole trees about 8" in diameter with bark removed. The sill to the right is hand hewn from a much bigger tree. It is 12 " square.

Attic - top plate and three top horizontal logs. These are 4" x 8", hewn on two sides. The top and bottom of each piece is slightly rounded, which is the outside of the tree.
