BROUSSARD HOME
Jackson, Louisiana
This house, said to have originated at St. Louis Plantation, was found in declining condition in a non-desript location in Plaquemine, LA. It had been altered and was run down, but muchof the historic fabric remained. I belive the house was probably built 1830-40 and was a first class house when original. In other words, I felt it was a very good cantidate for restoration. At it's core (see original floor plan) it was the "Louisiana classic plan" in transition. It retained the two rooms wide and two rooms deep plan, but notice it had a central hall, and the former open back porch was now enclosed and served as a stair hall. It originally had two chimneys in the front rooms, now long goneand one of the rear walls had been removed. On the plus side, most of the original doors and woodwork were in place including the french doors across the front.
