KLEINPETER - PETITE PIERRE
HOUSE - Baton Rouge, LA
This project involved the moving and restoration of a bulilding for a private owner. He had know about the building for many years and when it became available for sale he purchased it withouyt knowing at the time what it was other than an "old house". It sat on a hill on Highland Road for longer than anyone could remember. Hidden within was a late 18th century house, built by the son of the original Kleinpeter settler's to this area. Through careful and deliberate investigation, I was able to bring the original back to life. In the attic, the original hip roof was largely intact, and most of the original features were revealed as we removed later additions and alterations.
Existing prior to move.
In 1990, it won first prize in the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "Great American Home Award". It now sits proudly on a new site on Highland Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
